Project Pitch
My current plan is to create a rhythm game centered around gradually learning how to read/play sheet music, by starting the player off with the traditional "hit x button once it's hovering over y object" and slowly removing the genre's standard guardrails.
The audience for this game is not set in stone, as while I'd like for it to be at least somewhat flashy, rhythm games tend to be fairly accessible to most. I'd still like for it to be at least moderately challenging though.
The behavior the player is intended to exhibit is learning how to associate specific tones with specific buttons and time notes properly, then by gradually removing the standard training wheels, learning that they can do these tasks without the game's precise assistance.
Some challenging conditions the player might face include what I would call "muted motifs": musical "phrases" which appear as a series of nondescript lines as opposed to separate icons. Including this mechanic would encourage players to focus more on the specific tones of the music, as opposed to the visuals of the "guide grid" that take center stage in many other rhythm games.
The player will be scored on their accuracy in hitting the proper notes at the proper times, as well as their success in competing against a handful of goofy antagonistic characters.
